First Day in the Iowa Woods: From Dead Silence to Pure Redemption

Every hunter knows the feeling of a morning that completely stalls out. Our latest Iowa turkey hunt with Brandon & Carson started exactly that way—a quiet timber, zero gobbles, and a lone afternoon longbeard that hung up just out of range before melting back into the brush. It was a grind, but out here, a slow start just means it's time to shift gears.

Undeterred, we moved to a friend’s farm as the clock ticked down toward evening. We set the decoys, worked the slate call, and let the timber settle.

Right during the golden hour, the script flipped. A group of birds emerged, scanning the field and working their way close enough for us to hear them breathing. When the dominant gobbler finally stepped out and presented a clear lane, Brandon didn't miss his chance. One clean shot turned a day of heavy frustration into absolute triumph.

This is what the chase is all about—adapting on the fly, trusting your gut, and grinding until the last second of daylight. It’s also where we rely on gear that doesn’t blink when everything is on the line, like our Browning firearms and Vortex optics.

You’ll want to see how this one unfolded from start to finish.

Stay Driven,
