New Zealand: More Than Just a Hunt, It's a Legacy
There are some places that just get into your soul, and New Zealand’s Leithen Valley during the roar is one of them. We packed up with family and friends for a multi-day expedition into the mountains, ready for the steep climbs and unpredictable weather.
Every morning started in the crisp mountain air, glassing the hillsides while the primal roar of Red Stags echoed through the valleys. The guys put on a clinic early in the trip. Jon, hunting with his bow, made a flawless, precise shot on a heavy stag. Shortly after, Jeremy pulled off a classic, taking a mature bull right in its wallow—quick and decisive.
But the highlights of the trip belonged to the kids. Watching Cash, under Rach’s steady guidance, settle in, take a breath, and drop a massive 33-point Red Stag was unbelievable. Passing on that passion and seeing the fire light up in the next generation is what this lifestyle is completely about.
Carson had to fight through his share of tough breaks and near misses that would test anyone’s patience. But he stayed after it, pushed through the frustration, and finally found his moment deep in the thick timber. He called a massive stag into point-blank range and executed an epic close-range bow kill that was pure grit.
As the trip wound down, we shifted focus to Fallow Bucks. Pat made the final stalk count, taking a beautiful buck to bring a perfect close to the journey.
New Zealand didn't hand out anything easy, but every single mile was earned. It was a trip defined by family, perseverance, and the raw push of the mountains.
Stay Driven,
Pat & Nicole Reeve
