Pat Reeve’s Pursuit of a Mature Giant
The season started as a complete train wreck after a tough bow hunt left Pat empty-handed. But setbacks are just fuel. Alongside his son-in-law Brandon, Pat spent the spring and summer sweating over food plots, electric fences, and blind setups across Minnesota, Iowa, and Kansas. Every single detail was dialed in for one purpose: a close-range encounter with a mature giant.
October brought agonizing close calls in Minnesota. Hunting with his son Cash, the wind shifted and spooked their target. Days later, Pat made the hard, ethical call to pass on a marginal 50-yard shot, letting the buck melt back into the brush.
Then came the ultimate gambler's choice: stay in Minnesota for the now-patterned "big 8," or pull stakes for Kansas, where a massive buck had just surfaced on the trail cameras. Pat trusted his gut and headed south. The gamble paid off fast—just ninety minutes into the Kansas hunt, he dropped the hammer on a true western giant.
But the home-state story wasn't over. Returning to Minnesota for the late muzzleloader season, Pat braved the snow, self-filming a grueling hunt that ended with him tagging a mature, heavy-framed 8-pointer. The bittersweet twist came later: while he was away in Kansas, a neighbor had harvested the original "big 8."
It was a powerful reminder that while hard work pays off, the wild always writes its own script, and the real victory is found in the grind.
